The FMINT38 model builds on the manufacturer’s reputation for cores that provide real-world power gains and significant temperature drops. Since the RSQ3 uses the legendary 2.5 TFSI engine from the RS3, the intercooler design for that car works perfectly on the RSQ3, with modifications made to fit the F3 chassis behind the bumper.

Why different cores are tested
During the development of intercoolers, Forge Motorsport tests several different core designs for each specific application. This includes bar-and-plate and tube-and-fin cores with various fin pitches and heights, typically 22, 17, or 12 fins per inch. The shape, density, and spacing of the internal fins are also adjusted to precisely control the pressure drop produced by the intercooler.
Pressure drop is not always negative. Tests and extensive experience have shown that a controlled slowdown of compressed air allows more time for cooling within the core. As air passes through parts of the core exposed to the atmosphere, heat transfer is more efficient, resulting in better cooling. However, excessive pressure drop can be an issue for high-performance engines, as the turbo must work harder to force air through the core, generating more heat and increasing intake air temperature (IAT). Conversely, zero pressure drop is also inefficient because the air does not have enough time to cool, leading to higher intake temperatures.
During testing, the vehicle was left heat-soaked on the dyno until the radiator fans cycled on and off (intake temperature 36 °C), after which a dyno run was performed. This method ensures consistent, real-world results. The tests clearly show that the Forge Motorsport intercooler cools intake air much faster and achieves a significantly greater temperature drop than the stock unit.,
On a tested stock vehicle, the car produced 362 HP with a peak intake temperature of 58 °C. After fitting this intercooler alone, without any other modifications, the same car reached 386 HP with a peak intake temperature of 23 °C, representing a 24 HP gain and a 35 °C drop in intake temperature. On vehicles with ECU remaps (Stage 1), the gains are likely even higher, as the stock intercooler core may no longer be sufficient.
The front-mount intercooler from this brand is supplied with all necessary hardware and detailed installation instructions, with installation typically taking around 4 hours depending on experience and available tools.
